Narrow God Testo

Testo Narrow God

I grew up believing in an angry, vengeful God,Who had a tie-and-collar dress code
And an Anglo-Saxon son.
He liked His colors separate and the dirty laundry hid,
He stood beside stars and stripes
And built His churches big.
It's a frightening God who rules this earth
When He's the image of ourselves.
Chorus:
This world is too wide for a narrow God
He came so that all could be free;
When I limit His love to my school of thought,
Well, that's all I've got is a narrow, narrow God.

I've sat upon my throne of judgement,
It's a leather easy chair,
Looking down on those who've walked a mile
In shoes I'll never wear.
I can find justification, I can spin His words my way.
But spitting hairs and self-righteous prayers
Won't help me find His face.
Oh, the smaller that I make myself
The larger He can be.
(repeat chorus)
When He walked upon this earth,
Everyone had a place;
So why do we draw lines
For the boundaries of grace?
(repeat chorus)
